Today was another great day for the team. We left a very chilly Sayward this morning after saying goodbye to long-time friends and supporters Faith & Frank at the Fisherboy resort
enjoyed one last day of mountains and quiet roads before getting back into the hustle and bustle of the city. We arrived in Campbell River early in the afternoon, giving the time to replenish supplies at Save-On Foods, and attend to some other maintenance and house-keeping chores.
We had a visit from MP Rachel Blaney who spoke with team and then headed off to a fantastic lasagna supper at Legion Branch 137, where were presented with generous donations by both the Legion and the Willow Point Lions. Thank-you all for your support! Tomorrow we head for Courtenay!
The Wounded Warrior Run BC was created to bring awareness and raise funds for Wounded Warriors Canada.
A team of eight dedicated runners will run relay-style the length of Vancouver Island in just eight consecutive days, covering more than 600kms.
100% of the funds donated from Vancouver Island stay on Vancouver Island. In fact, any money donated on the island actually comes back 10 fold from the rest of Canada to provide life changing programs on the island.
According to Veterans Affairs Canada, in 2014, 41.7 percent of long-term disability claims for RCMP officers who were no longer with the force, were related to mental- -health conditions.
let’s also recognize those Support Team members who are so vital to the success of the Run Event and whom the runners can count every km of the way.
These are the people who remain in the background making sure from the time the runners leave the hotel in the morning until their safe return that night, that everything for the day runs as smoothly as possible while at the same time making sure the runners are safe and healthy along the route.
Let give them all a big shout out as they continue to finalize preparations for Sunday’s start and if you see them during the Run Event, give them a well-deserved shout out too!
